About First Bus

First Bus is the second-largest bus operator in the country. Across Yorkshire we have a fleet of more than 1,400 vehicles and over 3,350 employees working at eight depots. The company is firmly underway with a strategy to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality in towns and cities to achieve our ambition nationally to be zero-carbon by 2035. First West Yorkshire, the region’s largest operating business, has invested more than £60m to introduce hundreds of ultra-low emission buses into Leeds and Bradford. In October 2020 we launched the first zero-emission fleet in West Yorkshire and more all-electric buses were added in September 2021. This replacement programme has helped other depots in West and South Yorkshire to improve their fleets with better-performing diesel vehicles.  We have also Installed clean technology to older diesel buses to upgrade to Euro VI standard, the best possible, which reduces NOx emissions by up to 95% compared to older generation engines. In York, we operate the largest zero-emission Park & Ride bus fleet in the country in a joint partnership with City of York Council.  This was completed in May 2021 with a total investment of £9.3m and saves 1,600 tonnes of carbon every year.
